As summer slowly fades, a particularly beautiful time begins in the Salzburg region. Traditional festivals are celebrated around Seekirchen, the paths around Lake Wallersee invite hiking and cycling, and Salzburg is only about 15 kilometers away.

Farmers' Autumn in the Salzburg Lake District

The "Farmers' Autumn" festival is known for regional specialties, traditional crafts, music, and living customs. Various markets and events take place in the towns and villages of the Salzburg Lake District.

A special event is the Farmers' Autumn Festival with a car-free day around Lake Obertrum on August 30, 2026. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the path around the lake belongs to cyclists, walkers, and inline skaters. Along the way, regional delicacies, music, crafts, and a varied family program await.

You can find current information at the Salzburg Lake District website .

Dirndls and lederhosen are simply part of it

Traditional dress is typical and very welcome at the events of the Farmers' Autumn Festival. Dirndls and lederhosen are not costumes here, but rather part of Salzburg's tradition. The beauty of it is that wearing traditional dress at these festivals is neither too formal nor overdressed – it's always appropriate.

If you own a dirndl or lederhosen, you should definitely pack them in your suitcase. Of course, you are also very welcome everywhere even without traditional clothing.

Dirndls and lederhosen are also a natural part of the cityscape at the traditional Rupertikirtag fair.

The Salzburg Old Town Festival will take place from September 23rd to 27th, 2026. Around the cathedral, Residenzplatz, Mozartplatz and Kapitelplatz, you can expect historical rides, market stalls, regional delicacies, as well as folk and brass band music.

From Seekirchen you can easily reach Salzburg by S-Bahn – ideal if you also want to give your car a break during your holiday.

You can find dates and program information in the official Salzburg events calendar .

Hiking and cycling around Lake Wallersee

There is plenty of time between events to discover the nature around Seekirchen.

The circular route around Lake Wallersee is approximately 18 kilometers long . By bicycle, it takes about one to two hours; on foot, depending on your pace and breaks, you should allow around four to six hours. The route follows asphalt and gravel paths, passing fields, small villages, and the Wenger Moor.

You can find more information about the route at the Salzburg Lake District website .

For a shorter walk, the Wenger Moor is ideal. A roughly three-kilometer-long version of the themed trail leads along well-maintained farm tracks through the moorland and is also suitable for families with strollers.
